Bowmanville Zoo,
Camel Rides
We
are sorry to disappoint the many people who were looking forward to
this attraction, but unfortunately due to budget constraints & space limitations this event
had to be cancelled.
New
to this year's Sutton Fair are Camel Rides, brought to you by the
Bowmanville Zoo.
Experiencing a camel caravan
reminds us all that
humans reliance on the internal combustion engine is only a recent
historical phenomena. As you traverse high above the ground it harkens
back to an age of the
desert tribes of the Arabian Nights as they follow their nomadic
existence. Experience what it is to be at one with an animal. Feel the
muscles roll beneath you and the magnificent beauty of your beast of
burden as you experience the ride of a lifetime. Two of the greatest
challenges facing captive camels are boredom and physical
activity to our camels. The cardio vascular benefits of
regular exercise, has been well documented. In addition to the physical
benefits to our ride animals, the interaction with the Bowmanville Zoo
guests allows increased opportunities for mental enrichment as they
meet and greet the many riders and have opportunities for gentle walks
outside of their usual enclosures.
Over 25 exotic
animals are displayed
in a very fascinating and very safe exhibit.
Every
animal is contained in their own sealed aquarium with up to three
handlers controlling everything that happens. The display is very
interactive and educational. Each handler can take out one animal at a
time to let people see, feel or hold them. In addition, the handlers
will tell the visitors all about each of the animals and the visitors
can ask as many questions as they would like. All of the animals are
well-trained and very used to all of the commotion at fairs and other
events. Interactive activity sheets are handed out to get the children
even more involved in identifying and learning about the animals. We
also provide a hand-sanitizing station for anyone who feels the need.
